Mega Man IV

Platform Played On: NES

ABOUT

Mega Man 4 is yet another continuation of the Mega Man series. It features an overhaul of the Power Screen alongside 2 unlockable power ups that makes traversing stages much easier, On top of Rush returning to help aid you with his updated abilities.

STORY

Mega Man IV's story has both a prologue and the story of what's currently happening. Mega Man used to be just a Humanoid Robot named "Rock" who actually lived like a Human, However whenever the Robots began to attack, He stepped up and chose to become a Fighting Robot to save the world. He did so three different times against Dr. Wily (The first three games of course) and now a new Doctor named Dr.Cossack has risen up and began to make his own robots to wreck havoc and to destory Mega Man. Here's some spoilers so if you don't want to know what happens just skip to the Gameplay section, You have been warned. After defeating Dr.Cossack (He had about 2 life bars left), Proto Man comes out of nowhere with his daughter Kalinka. She starts to beg to Mega Man to not kill her father as he isn't a evil person. Dr. Wily surprisingly comes out and was very angry at Proto Man for breaking the deal with him. Mega Man continues to go through Dr. Wily's fortress and proceeds to save the day, Riding home on a train from Russia (From what I assume) back to America once again.

GAMEPLAY

For the most part, It's about the same as the last game but now you have the new powerful Mega Buster in which lets Mega Man charge a shot and fire, There are some abilities that you can actually Charge up and shoot like the Pharoh's Shot. As I said before, Rush returns with his 3 new abilities that you unlock, Some of them like Rush Jet had some changes to where now acts like a moving platform rather than something you can just fly around on, Which can make some later bosses a bit more challenging to do. You can still move up and down but Rush Jet never stops moving once your on it. There's also two new items called Balloon or Wire. Ballowwn is basically like that type-3 item from Mega Man 2 where you make a platform to jump on. This time it goes up slightly until you land on it. Wire is interesting because you basically look up (Yes Mega Man looks up in this game it's kinda cute looking) and grapple to the ceiling. The Items in this game feels a lot more viable to use compared to Mega Man 3 as they all seem really good and even cool, Like the Dive Missle where it actually has proper homing shots. Okay so Levels, They're actually really tough but it kinda brings back to Mega Man 2 where they're tough but well designed. The enemies are good, there's some returning enemies from the previous games alongside brand new ones. They maybe tough but of course, if you know how they work it's fun to fight. Also for some reason, In this game in particular, The Health recovery bar on Bosses and even on Mega Man are very slow compared to earlier Entries. I don't know if this was intentional or not but, Jeez I could watch the entire godfather triolgy waiting for the bar to finish LOL (Okay it still takes like less than 7 seconds to fill but it's just longer). As for the bosses? They're really easy if not too easy for the most part. The one I had the most trouble on was Dive Man but that's because I wasn't too aware on how his weakness worked with Skull Man's ability. Once I got it, It was easy. I think also the reason why I feel like this game was kinda easier on bosses and stuff for me was due to E Tanks being a thing. It's actually really easy to get a bunch of E tanks and then you can Rock and Roll through the later part with the bosses. I also learned that you can replay stages so I actually went through Skull Man's stage like 3 times on accident but managed to fill up on E Tanks. Overall, The game's good, The levels might be much tougher to do than the bosses.

MUSIC

The Music in this game is, good. I feel like the reason why the music is the way it is, is because of the setting. Again, Russian Scientist man causing havoc. But yeah the Tracks here are just good, some of them... Not so much, and I'm referring to like the Password select screen is kinda weird and I don't really like it, Stage music is good though and the boss music is too. There's really not much to say.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Mega Man IV I feel like is another solid entry in the Mega Man series with some of the upgrades that it has given to Mega Man compared to the previous games. The game features a more robust story and game play. I have to put this under Mega Man 2 however so far, But damn this game was actually quite a good game.
